Welcome!
The Harlem Renaissance was a time where the African American community began to eclipse their grim past and demonstrate their intellectual and artistic abilities. It was a time where freedom could be tasted in the air and an unforgettable movement was created under the soles of peoples feet. People like Louis Armstrong, Zora Neil Hurston, and Langston Hughes influenced the era where African Americans no longer wore rags, spoke in whispers, and served white folk, but began to wear suits of fine silks, preached loudly and with conviction, and served themselves in achieving the ambitions their ancestors only dreamed of.
The close ties to civil rights made this movement unique to any others seen before. This time, the 1920's, was a time that sparked many ambitious men and women to fight for the rights that they were never given. Along with an immense flourishment of literature, music, and art, there was a change change in the way society treated its members; in other words, there was a push for equality. This is a website made to enlighten the minds of those who have not yet fully understood the significance of this time. We the editors, Laura Gomez, Leo Garcia, and Brett Hecker, are juniors at Casa Grande High school and our purpose is to make this magnificent time period known for its influence in arts, literature, and human rights.
